Twitter and Me

For class today, we were instructed to use twitter as a way of quiz taking. Upon hearing these instructions, I was immediately confused. How was it possible to take a quiz using such a tool? Well, much to my surprise, it was actually pretty easy to work with and fairly easy to understand. Getting to see everyone else's input was great as well. It allowed me to see or think about other things I hadn't initially. It's certainly a unique tool to utilize for quiz taking and such.

Overall, my experience with Twitter has actually been a fairly good one. At first, I was kind of annoyed. I didn't like Twitter and had absolutely no desire to use it. As I begun to use and experiment with it, however, I realized that this is actually a great tool for communication. Though a bit grudgingly, I admit that Twitter could end up being a useful tool inside and out of the classroom.

When I think about using tools like Twitter in the classroom, I can see how it could be a positive aspect. Speaking as a future elementary school teacher though, I cannot see how Twitter could be used as a tool that utilized by the children. At this age level, the children will not be able to use such a tool. In general, though, I do think that in a higher grade level, that this could be an effective part of your curriculum.

The Final Frontier

    For my technology class this week, we were asked to read an article, collaborate with a group, and produce a presentation on said article. The article, Teacher Pedagogical Beliefs: The Final Frontier
in Our Quest for Technology Integration? is simply taking a stance on why technology is beneficial to implement in the classroom. This discusses the vital uses for technology and how to implement such ways into your own classroom.

   While working with the two other people in the group, I learned a bit more than I expected. The communications between us all seemed to work very effectively and everyone did their parts. During the course of completely the assignment, everyone took initiative to work and add slides as they saw fit. This made the project fairly easy to do and the people great to work with. If ever given another presentation, I would definitely choose those two people to work with again.

   The presentation in itself is meant to provoke thought and show teachers the benefits of using the technology in their classrooms. Here is the presentation, I hope that it inspires fellow teachers everywhere to think about using technology in their classrooms. 

All About Me

My name is Brianna Merritt and I am a student at Edinboro University. I'm currently working toward a degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. I absolutely love working with kids and I hope to make it my  career one day. I think that teaching kids is a beautiful reward and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

Aside from being a college student, I have many other interests. I love to read, write, listen to music, hang out with friends and family, and more. With the "normal interests", I also have some interests that maybe some people wouldn't think of. For instance, I'm very interested in the paranormal and earth based religions. I'm different, I guess you could say, because I like to explore all the possibilities life has to offer. I am a daughter, a sister, a cousin, a niece, a friend. I am who I am, and I don't change that for anyone.

When I think about technology in the classroom, I tend to see both the positive and negative aspects. Technology is very valuable to teachers because of all the benefits such as the time saving, better graphics, easier teaching methods and more. When you use technology in a classroom, some kids learn better. This also allows the children to be independent and word at there own speed. On the same note, though, it could also hinder a child's education because they all have different learning methods. So, honestly, it's hard to say that technology is always beneficial but it's definitely a reliable resource in the classroom.
